Have you switched to remote or distance working and are wondering what you can do to really have an impact on members of our community hit hardest by this crisis? You can donate your unused parking, bus and train fares to #FareitForward.

Here’s how it works:
Every day we will collect the “Fares” via our Venmo account at @chrisiecanny for a minimum of $5,50 per day. Friends and neighbors will nominate a resident of Staten Island to be a “Fare It Forward Beneficiary”., i.e. per Diem teachers, restaurant workers, and other small business employees. At the end of the day, a Fare It Forward Beneficiary will be selected at random to receive their “Fare”. Beneficiaries must be nominated by someone other than themselves. A friend, neighbor, colleague or employer can nominate a beneficiary. Once a beneficiary is chosen, they will be removed from the nominees. Unchosen beneficiaries will remain in the nominee pool for another chance to be chosen the following day.

She is also a Mentor and Assistant Professor at SUNY Empire State College, teaching courses in Criminal law, Family Law, Family Violence, Juvenile Justice, and Constitutional Law.

In 2017 Ms. Sileo joined the Executive Board of Youth B.U.I.L.D. Staten Island program which provides educational and vocational training for Staten Island Youth As an attorney who advocates for children in Foster Care, this is a cause that is very dear to Ms. Sileo.

Community outreach, helping families in crisis, lifting up our neighbors in times of need are the bedrocks of Michele’s career and calling in life. #FareItForward is the way our community can put funds directly in the pockets of those hit hardest financially – working moms with kids a home, per diem workers, retail employees. Donate your unused parking, train and bus fare and #FareItFoward to those members of your community.

Chrisie Canny

Chrisie Canny is a life long Bay Ridge transplant that just moved to Staten Island in 2019 with her husband and children. Living on the North Shore, they have already fallen in love with the sense of community their neighbors have shared including all of the wonderful small businesses and restaurants.

It is with this unique insight that the seed was planted for #FareItForward. After a meeting with Michele just 2 weeks prior and sharing their love of philanthropy and community outreach , they jumped at what they knew would be an opportunity to help so many lives in their Staten Island community!
